These porous cane softwood spiles are also known as breather pegs and are used to vent the excess CO2 gases whilst conditioning real ale in casks.
They are also essential for good cask management as they are used to control the flow of air into the cask whilst it is in service and should be disposed of after each session to eliminate any chance of contamination of the ale.
These spiles are approx 38mm in length and are sold in packs of 10, 25, 50, 250 and 500.
Once the conditioning process is complete these porous spiles are replaced with a harwood or plastic spile 58mm in length ready for tapping the Cask ensuring that the beer is in perfect condition when tapped.
